Understanding
Starts With Listening

Not assumptions. Not guesses. Direct insight from the young people living the experience.

The FutureYOUth Initiative was built on a simple belief: the better we understand young people, the better equipped we are to support them. That belief shapes everything FYI does — from the questions we ask to the way we bring insight back to the communities responsible for young people's success.

A Different Way to Understand

For generations, communities have measured outcomes — graduation rates, attendance, employment, college enrollment. Those numbers matter. But they only tell us what happened. They don't tell us what young people were actually navigating to get there. FYI was built to close that gap — gathering direct insight from young people themselves, rather than relying on assumptions about their experience.

Two Ways of Listening

FYI combines two complementary approaches. SEE360™, FYI's proprietary conditions-based assessment, designed by Dr. Dayeshell P. Muhammad, gives communities a statewide view of how young people are experiencing the transition into adulthood. Youth Community Conversations bring that picture into focus — facilitated dialogue where young people share their experience in their own words, adding depth no data point alone can capture. Together, these tools help Connecticut see young people more clearly than outcome data ever could.

One Conversation at a Time, Building a Statewide Picture

As communities participate in SEE360 and Youth Community Conversations, FYI builds a fuller understanding of youth transition across Connecticut. Everything we learn comes together and is shared publicly at the FYI Data Reveal. FYI doesn't prescribe solutions. It builds the understanding that should come before them.

Understanding Is the First Step Toward Thriving.

Young people are growing up in a rapidly changing world. Communities that intentionally seek to understand their experiences are better positioned to recognize strengths, respond to challenges, and create environments where young people have greater opportunities to thrive. The FutureYOUth Initiative exists to help Connecticut build that understanding — one community, one conversation, and one insight at a time.
