Understanding
Starts With Listening

Not assumptions. Not guesses. Direct insight from the young people living the experience.

The FutureYOUth Initiative was built on a simple belief: the better we understand young people, the better equipped we are to support them. That belief shapes everything FYI does — from the questions we ask to the way we bring insight back to the communities responsible for young people's success.

A Different Way to Understand

For generations, communities have measured outcomes — graduation rates, attendance, employment, college enrollment. Those numbers matter. But they only tell us what happened. They don't tell us what young people were actually navigating to get there. FYI was built to close that gap — gathering direct insight from young people themselves, rather than relying on assumptions about their experience.

Two Ways of Listening

FYI listens to young people through two complementary approaches. SEE360™, a structured insight system developed by Dr. Dayeshell P. Muhammad and housed through FutureDaye, helps identify patterns in the conditions young people report experiencing as they move toward adulthood.

Youth Community Conversations create space for young people to describe those experiences in their own words, adding context, nuance, and meaning that survey findings alone cannot provide.

Together, these methods bring structured patterns and lived experience into conversation, helping communities better understand what young people are experiencing before decisions and interventions are designed.

Listening Across Communities, Building a Clearer Picture

As young people and communities participate in SEE360™ and Youth Community Conversations, FYI develops a fuller picture of the conditions shaping young people’s transition toward adulthood in participating communities across Connecticut.

Patterns and themes from FYI’s 2026 listening cycle, considered alongside adult and community perspectives, will be shared publicly at The Conditions We Create: A Connecticut Youth Data and Action Experience on December 9, 2026.

FYI does not prescribe one-size-fits-all solutions. It helps communities build the shared understanding and responsibility that should come before decisions and interventions are designed.

Understanding Is the First Step Toward Thriving.

Young people are growing up in a rapidly changing world. Communities that intentionally seek to understand their experiences are better positioned to recognize strengths, respond to challenges, and create environments where young people have greater opportunities to thrive. The FutureYOUth Initiative exists to help Connecticut build that understanding — one community, one conversation, and one insight at a time.
